Michael & Amanda

In May 2016, Michael accompanied a friend to Housing Finance Bank to sort out his bank account issues. The lady to help out his friend was Amanda. “I remember I was joking with my friend but staring at Amanda all the time. I later asked her for her number but she refused. Given that I have a couple of friends in the Bank, I asked for her name, and used her name to get her number,” Michael remncises.
After 3 months, he sent her Mobile Money which she rejected and sent back. It could later be Michael’s friend who happens to be Amanda’s cousin to bring Michael’s woes to an end. The friend set up a meeting where he introduced Michael to Amanda. “I wanted to create a good impression so prior to the meeting I bought new clothes and shoes and about 3 brands of perfume,” Michael recounts.

He couldn’t let a chance slip by without confessing his intentions and what he felt for Amanda. Though reluctant at first, Amanda finally gave in.
More determined than ever to make her his wife, preparations for the engagement gave Michael a couple of sleepless nights. He says he wanted something unpredictable and out of the ordinary. After one year of dating, he invited her to Nairobi where he works to visit him since she was on leave from work.

“It was my second time visiting him. He didn’t tell me where he was taking me. We sat in a van with other people until I heard them talking about Masai Mara and that’s when I knew we were going to Masai Mara. When we arrived, we had an evening game drive. The following morning at 6am, we had a ballon flight across Masai Mara National Reserve. While in space, the pilot insisted that I should see some animals. He gave me his binoculars. That’s when I saw a banner with the words, ‘Amanda Will You Marry Me’. It was a beautiful surprise. I didn’t see it coming. I broke down in tears and I said yes!”
They say, nobody believes in love at first sight until that special person comes along and steals your heart. That visit to the Bank was the first step to what later would be a modern day fairytale. We wish Michael and Amanda a happy and blissful marriage. To infinity and beyond!
